Lutheran Military Support Group (LMSG) joyfully celebrated its 10th anniversary of Christ-centered service to Military Service Members, Veterans, and their Families on May 3rd at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minnesota.
With God providing a beautiful day, the celebration began in Trinity Chapel with a special worship service led by WELS Civilian Chaplain to the Military, Rev. Paul Horn. The service followed the adapted Matins format from the Christian Service Members’ Handbook and featured a meaningful sermon by ELS President Rev. Glenn Obenberger on the warrior’s vocation sanctified through faith, based on Luke 7.
Festivities continued outside at the ELS Military Monument, where sunlight illuminated the golden scripture engravings and the cross-topped flag standard of the Monument. Marine Corps Veteran Justin Burk led the crowd in the National Anthem, and LMSG leaders—past and present—reflected on the organization’s beginnings, growth, and mission for the future. Bethany professor Jason Jaspersen also offered insights into the symbolism of the monument and its connection to strength through God’s Word.
It was a joyful day of worship, remembrance, and renewed commitment to serving those who serve.
